Robinhood offers event contracts inside its normal app.

Overview

Robinhood offers event contracts inside its normal app. You don't trade on Robinhood itself. Robinhood Derivatives, LLC, a CFTC-registered futures broker (FCM), sends your order to an exchange. Its support article lists Kalshi, ForecastEx, Rothera, and NADEX (Crypto.com's exchange).

The pitch is convenience. If you already have a Robinhood account, you can reach several exchanges from one place without opening new accounts.

Pricing changed on Jun 1, 2026. The commission is weighted by probability: 10% (5% if you pay for Gold, which costs $5 a month), capped at $0.01 per contract. An exchange fee of up to $0.01 per contract is added on top. So the most you pay per contract is about 2¢.

Eligibility per Robinhood's article: 18 or older, a US resident, and an individual brokerage account.

State limits: no sports contracts in Maryland or Nevada. In Michigan, no new sports contracts from Sep 9, 2026. The app shows other restrictions. Secondary sources report Robinhood lost a Ninth Circuit case against Nevada on Aug 28, 2026 and has asked the Supreme Court to review it. Laws change, check your state.

Best for

People who already invest with Robinhood and want event contracts in the same app.

Skip it if

Skip it if you're in Maryland, Nevada or Michigan and want sports, or you want to trade directly on an exchange instead of through a broker.

Pricing

Commission is probability-weighted: 10% (5% with Robinhood Gold at $5/mo), capped at $0.01 per contract, from Jun 1, 2026. Plus an exchange fee of up to $0.01 per contract. Source: Robinhood event contracts support article, checked Oct 14, 2026. Check the official site.

Pros

  • No new account if you already use Robinhood. Event contracts sit in the same app.
  • One app reaches several exchanges: Kalshi, ForecastEx, Rothera and NADEX.
  • Total cost is capped low, at about 1¢ commission plus up to 1¢ exchange fee per contract.
  • Gold members pay half the commission rate (5% instead of 10%).

Cons

  • No sports contracts in Maryland or Nevada, and no new ones in Michigan from Sep 9, 2026.
  • You go through a broker, so you get the broker's menu of markets, not every market on each exchange.
  • The probability-weighted commission is harder to work out in your head than a flat fee.
  • Robinhood is itself in litigation with Nevada, so state access could change.

How it compares

Robinhood vs IBKR ForecastTrader, both broker routes. IBKR charges $0 commission plus a $0.01 exchange fee on ForecastEx contracts, and $0.01 + $0.01 on Kalshi contracts. Robinhood's commission is capped at $0.01 plus up to $0.01 exchange fee. So the costs are close, and IBKR is slightly lower on its own ForecastEx contracts. IBKR also pays a coupon on ForecastEx positions (3.38% APY at last check; the rate changes). But IBKR requires you to be 21, and Robinhood requires 18. Robinhood also routes to more exchanges and to sports, where states allow it. If you're 21+ and already with IBKR, it's cheaper. If you're with Robinhood, stay there.

Quick start

  1. Read Robinhood's event contracts overview article.
  2. Confirm you meet the requirements: 18+, US resident, individual brokerage account.
  3. Check which contracts the app shows for your state, especially sports.
  4. Read the contract's rules and the exchange it's routed to before trading.

Verdict

Robinhood is the easy route if you already use it. Fees are capped low, and you reach several exchanges from one app. You trade through a broker, and sports are blocked in some states. It's our runner-up for low-fee access through a broker, behind IBKR's lower flat fee.
